Part of that quest has been profitable. Gary has been doing an excellent job cleaning out the garage. Junk metal, junk auto parts etc. He puts
everything in milk crates in the pick up. On Monday's and Friday's I drive it to the scrap yard and drive the truck up on the scale. I make sure the passenger window in the truck is open so I can communicate with the guy through the window of the building. The loaded truck is weighed and then you drive down into the bowels of the scrap yard to unload. There is a number of exciting activities going on like back hoes and fork lifts moving assorted items from one area to the other. Last week I was the only woman there
among the other customers and the workers hispanic and otherwise.
Not the case this week. I pulled up onto the scale and looked through the window and there was a blonde lady behind the desk! She was really nice and down to earth. She asked,"what have ya got?" and I replied,"I've got some heavy metal, some cast aluminum, and some light metal mix." She said,"let me come out and check" So I got out and met her at the back of the truck. We introduced ourselves and Cindy proceeded to check my load.....with a magnet. We got a nice repore going and she gave me my own magnet!! WOO HOO now I'll actually know a little about
what I'm talking about. Or at least look like I do. So now I'm a scrapper. fun.
I had to back off the scale and have the guys unload my aluminum prior to unloading
the heavy metal and mixed stuff. While I was waiting my turn this fellow scrapper
we'll call him Sam. approached the truck and was eyeballin an (dirty)aluminum head sticking out of a bucket. "How much you want for this?" I shrugged,"How much you want to pay?"
Sam said,"couple bucks" and he handed me two dollars. I took it and then handed it back to him.
"I can't take that, she's already weighed it." He said,"She won't know." I said,"I will."
A few seconds later my turn came and I watched him as I got in to move the truck.
Making sure that he didn't have sticky fingers as he moved away. I backed up into
my spot and the guys started to speak spanish to each other and unloading. A little
skinny guy came over and asked,"What was it he was interested in?" I pointed it out.
He took it out of the back of the truck and brought it in to the office where Sam and Cindy
were. A few seconds later Cindy was yelling at Sam things like,"We don't allow vulturing here." She then put the head back in the bucket, and apologized to me up and down. She then threw him off the property!! She had watched the whole thing threw her office window. She even told me that she watched him rounding the back of my truck. Completely expecting him to try and lift the head. How exciting was that for my second time out!?
The dogs from last week. names and stories later.
I will mention that I got bit again last week. Try to guess which one. haha
