Well between yesterday and today we've seen some pretty interesting puppies. I'll start with identifying who's who. First on the blog is Oliver(more about him later) Amber, Sammy, Isla,
Maize, and Morgan.
First is the adorable
Amber (just like my little Amby Bamby) and she
is as sweet and quiet as she is cute. Next is a
picture of Amber in the "sling". It's just easier to
groom and cut nails on little dogs if they are suspended.
Today we had Isla (Eyela) who just turned 1 yr old today. She has the best tongue for kisses and
is wonderful. Till you touch her feet. First time
she ever showed aggression was today when I was dremmeling her nails. She has long quicks and I dremmeled her cause I didn't want to make her bleed. That's what I get for trying to be nice. But I won't stop trying. She snapped .....but didn't make serious contact. Surprised me though. Little stinker.
Next is "Sammy" marinating in the tub. He's a Silky Terrier. Very serious dog. You have to wash
Silkies and Yorkshires by hand. no power washing hose. If you did they'd be a tangled mess.
Just below that is Sammy with all his hair combed forward and Lynn getting ready to trim him.
My favorite is "Oliver". I met him for the first time yesterday. His "Mom" rescued him from a local shelter a year ago. He'd been here once before at that time. She was in love with him and had nothing but affectionate accolades for him. To me he seemed quite dominant and quick to growl. His back was matted to his skin like a saddle. Again, it's been a year since his last groom. He won't "let" his human brush him or touch his feet. When I reached to undo his
harness he snapped ..........and he wasn't kidding. I put a slip (choke) style leash on him and corrected him. He protested .....at first. Lynn didn't want me to risk getting bit and was going to
just call his "Mom" and have her come get him. I asked Lynn to let me work with him for a minute. She asked,"How are you gonna get him in the tub?" She asked that because every time I tried to touch this dog on the other end of the leash he'd turn and snap. So I kept the leash tought in my left hand while sliding my right hand underneath him to support his weight, while lifting all at once. Over the top edge of the tub and viola. I then slipped the tether over his surprised little head and attached it to the eye hook inside the tub. He FREAKED... he thrashed, he stood up on his hind legs screaming his disapproval. I talked in a monotone voice and repeated relax......relax......its ok etc. all the while bathing him with the hose. I just felt strongly that this little "Terror" Terrier couldn't go home in his matted state. He settled right down within seconds and turned into a little angel. I scrubbed his face, washed his feet etc. Then I picked him up in a towel like he was my best buddy and attached him to the dryer table. I dried him, cut his nails, clipped his eye boogers away from his face, and scissored through his mattes. He wouldn't tolerate brushing or pulling at all so I just cut em off. Then Lynn clipped him and LOOK HOW CUTE HE IS!! The finished product is him on the table with his Easter bandanna on. I just love those tenacious terriers.
I also got to meet Maize, a 14 year old Yellow Lab. Hey when your 14 you can sit when your getting dried. What a sweetheart.
and last but not least is "Morgan" the 6yr old German Shepard. Another sweetie with an authoritative presence. When I got her in the tub (she walked up the ramp) I said to Lynn," the hair is gonna fly" and she wholeheartedly agreed. Well it was a hair storm!! Customers say that they like bringing there bath only dogs to be groomed because the power drying really helps with the shedding. No kidding............. :)
